Midterm

This is "Homage to the Albers". Josef and Anni Albers met at The Bauhaus in Germany in the 1920's and were artists as well as teachers and writers. I am particularly interested in Anni Albers, as she really tried to elevate Textiles from just a craft to a "fine art".

Josef Albers is probably best know for his series "Homages to the Square". The composition and colors are based on his "Homage to the Square: Blue and Green" (1950).

The two largest squares originated from two pieces by Josef Albers, the next square originated from a weaving by Anni Albers, and the smallest square is a photo of the couple. The gist of what I did is this: I desaturated, color matched, cropped, and layered all together. I finally applied a filter ( I can't remember if it was Watercolor or Palette Knife. I should probably write those things down...). It took a lot of experimenting to get a painterly quality.

Most of my source imagery came from : http://www.albersfoundation.org
